Love,Love, LOVE this show. Well, kind of. After attending this show I always want to give up quilting. It's disheartening to see those amazing quilts and KNOW that you quilts will never be THAT good. I walk away shaking my head and just thinking, "why bother?"But I go back time and time again, and I come home and teach myself something new. I may never be that good but I sure am better than four years ago...so there! Do you know that I have been "quilting" (yeah, I don't fool myself, I know I "quilt" with the parenthesis, LOL!) for only four years? Oh, but I have had a passion for quilting for much longer than that... I was a Fabric Collector, and my sister's cheerleader, she was the only quilter I knew and the one who invited me the Vermont Quilt Festival for the very first time. I will forever be thankful for that because nothing will change a beginner's perspective on quilting faster than a look at how The Big Girls do it!
So, if you have run out of mojo and forgotten why you loved the craft...get in your car and head on over. It is sooo worth the drive! I will not be vending, but I will be there, getting my groove back! I can't wait!

ReplyDeleteYes, Brenda, I know what you mean.. But it gets in your soul and I try to look on their works as inspiration? There are some fabulous artist out there and you have certainly grown over the years in your own artistry..

I soo want to go. I'm just curious to see how this has changed over the years. One thing I loved about this show was that there were some gorgeous traditional quilts shown. At Houston there are some outstanding quilts, but they are more artsy pieces. I was talking with Harriet Hargrave about VQF a few weekends ago and she was saying that VQF had changed alot from when I used to go. I just love a great quilt show and this one will always have a special place in my heart because I learned to quilt in all the classes I took at the show over the years.
ReplyDeleteSame thing happened to me today at the big quilt show in Columbus. I could never make quilts like those, but I love making quilts so I just keep at it! :0)

ReplyDeleteI feel that way sometimes after leaving a quilt show. And sometimes they inspire me, but I know that I make my quilts for my children to cherish. Nothing is as important as seeing their faces when I give them a quilt.
